Great News Wednesday Book Study Format

May we open this meeting with a moment of silent prayer, followed by the Serenity Prayer?

(Introduce yourself and give your sobriety date)

Welcome to the regular Wednesday Night Big Book Study Meeting of the Great News Group of Alcoholics Anonymous.

The members of this group are committed to practicing the 12 steps as outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.  It is our intent to share our experience, strength, and hope with those who suffer from the disease of alcoholism so that we may carry out AA’s primary purpose - to help alcoholics recover through the 12 steps.

This is an open meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. In keeping with our singleness of purpose and our Third Tradition which states that “The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking,” we ask that all who participate confine their discussion to their problems with alcohol.

Please turn off your cell phones.

We will pass the 7th tradition basket now, remembering we are self supporting declining outside donations.

Let’s go around the room introducing ourselves, let us know if you are new or joining us from out of town.

AA Announcements?

Welcome everyone.

DOES EVERYONE HAVE A BIG BOOK? We do have some extra books for those without one tonight…please bring your own next week. If there are not enough please share with someone.

This meeting will use the “Big Book Study Guide” to help us stay focused on the study of the Big Book.  There are one or more questions for virtually every sentence in the Basic Text.

To not read or simply pass is always an option.

To begin, we read a paragraph from our “Big Book”. We then proceed asking questions from that same paragraph just read. The Chairperson will read the questions from the Study Guide. Then, Starting at the beginning of that same paragraph, the next person just reads the corresponding sentence as the answer.. Moving to the next question, the next person answers that question, until finishing the paragraph. Chairperson will open the discussion to anyone with experience or having questions related to the text we just read. Remember, try to keep our sharing to less than 3 minutes please.

TONIGHT WE WILL START ON PAGE_______, OF THE BIG BOOK.

(Chairperson to close the meeting about 7:57pm)

In closing, let us remember what the long form of the Twelfth Tradition says:

“And finally, we of Alcoholics Anonymous believe that the principle of Anonymity has an immense spiritual significance. It reminds us that we are to place principles before personalities; that we are to actually practice genuine humility. This to the end that our great blessings may never spoil us; that we shall forever live in thankful contemplation of Him who presides over us all.”

I want to thank all who attended tonight…we hope to see you here next week.
